History of Lolets Eco-park
February 26, 2010(khto2010) Lolet’s Eco-park situated just three kilometers away or a 10-minute ride from the town proper, the Lolet’s Eco-Park, boasts of being the only eco-tourism destination in Dao, Capiz. Benedicto Escutin shared what his father, Luis or ‘Lolet’ a former mayor of Dao and board member of Capiz started to develop about a hectare of their 4-hectare property at Brgy. Duyoc in the 1960s.
In 2005, the entire four-hectare property was developed and served as a “model to create awareness, especially the youth, on the importance of a clean, green and beautiful environment.”
“This is the only eco-park in Dao. It is frequented by both domestic and foreign tourists because there are no similar facilities like this in our neighboring towns,” he said.The park hosts the last remnants of the Panay Railway Bridge, connecting Capiz and Iloilo, when train then was one of the most accessible means of transportation in the 1980s.
The remnant with a length of about 12-14 meters is now one of the attractions inside the park. Around half-hectare of the property is a forested area suited for camping and other outdoor activities. Those who love adventure may try the more or less 100-meter zipline or the slide for life while hovering above the creek cum fishpond.
They may try crossing the park’s hanging bridge, go boating, fishing using the hook-and-line method, splurge at the swimming pools or try the videoke. Or simply enjoy visiting the aviary and visit the parks fruit trees and flower gardens or reflect inside the meditation area.
Children on the other hand may opt to feast on amenities available at the children’s playground. Snacks and express meals are also available for those who wanted to have a food trip. Escutin added that they are now developing a convention center that can accommodate around 100 persons in addition to the already existing pavilion, cottages and room accommodations.
The park is about 45-minute travel by land from Roxas City or approximately an hour and a half from Iloilo City by bus or private car.
